Natalie Fern
MChem Student
University of Leeds
Natalie is a final year Natural Sciences (MNatSc with Industrial Experience) student at the University of Leeds. She studies Chemistry and Biochemistry, and has completed a placement year at Stephenson Group Ltd - building their sustainability framework and calculating the business' carbon footprint. Her current project, under supervision of Dr Adam Clayton, focuses on developing and optimising chemoenzymatic cascades in flow. This aims to combine an established biocatalytic amidation reaction with an enantioselective photochemical multicomponent reaction to deliver bioactive molecules found in pharmaceutical drugs. Optimisation algorithms will be applied to automate the process, with the aim of improving efficiency and sustainability.
