Charlie Purtill

MChem Student
University of Leeds

Charlie is a final year Chemistry (MChem) student at the University of Leeds. He previously completed a summer internship, supervised by Professor Bao Nguyen and Dr Briony Yorke, exploring the use of machine learning and image analysis to identify protein crystals in images, with the end goal of predicting if and how proteins will crystallise in different solutions. His current project focuses on applying machine learning to optimise O-difluoromethylation reactions in flow, with the possibility to transfer the knowledge of this reaction to similar substrates, making their optimisation processes more efficient.
